Whether you are fasting for Ramadan, other religious observances, or personal health reasons, there is a lot happening to your body when you fast. And, how you break your fast can also make a difference in your health and how you feel after fasting.

Start with Hydration

After hours of fasting, your body needs water first. Start with a glass or two of water before anything else. Adding a squeeze of lemon or a few slices of cucumber can make it more appealing and help kick-start digestion gently.

Reach for Dates and Fresh Fruit

Dates are a traditional and nutritionally smart way to break a fast. They provide a quick source of natural sugars, fibre, potassium and magnesium — everything your body has been quietly asking for. Follow with fresh fruit like watermelon, berries or sliced mango for additional hydration and gentle energy.

Go Slow with the Main Meal

Give your digestive system time to wake up before loading it with a large meal. A light soup or small portion of wholesome food is ideal in the first 20–30 minutes. Listen to your body — it will tell you when it is ready for more.
