Celery juice is just the latest buzzword to hit the health and fitness landscape. With little interest being shown previous to 2019, it has fast become the next instagramable health fad. But is it actually good for you? Here are 5 facts to know.
1. It Is Hydrating
Celery is approximately 95% water. Drinking celery juice first thing in the morning is an effective way to hydrate, especially if you struggle to drink plain water.
2. It Contains Useful Nutrients
Celery provides vitamin K, vitamin C, potassium, and folate. However, juicing removes most of the fibre, so whole celery actually delivers more nutritional benefit per serving.
3. The 'Medical Medium' Claims Are Not Clinically Proven
Many of the dramatic health claims circulating online originate from a single source and are not backed by clinical evidence. Celery juice is a healthy addition to a balanced diet — it is not a cure or a treatment for specific conditions.
4. Timing Matters Less Than Consistency
Drinking it on an empty stomach is frequently recommended, but there is no strong evidence this makes a meaningful difference. What matters more is that you include more vegetables in your diet, whatever the timing.
5. It Can Be Part of a Great Diet — Just Not a Magic Fix
Celery juice can be a genuinely useful part of a well-rounded, whole-food diet. It just cannot replace one. If you enjoy it, keep it up — but pair it with plenty of whole fruits and vegetables for the full picture.
